A Thousand Splendid Suns

If a book is good, it transports us to another time and place.  We become welcome travelers to the
world the writer has created or re-created.   In A Thousand Splendid Suns, Khaled Hosseini's follow up novel to The Kite Runner, we are again in 1980's  Kabul, a time of innocence and harmony.  Mr. Hosseini shows us an Afghanistan of olive orchards, kite filled skies and old traditions.  It is not a perfect country but it is a country of peace.  A place where all factions lived together, each upholding their own beliefs and honoring their history, even 2,000 year old Buddah Statues.   It is a country I would have liked to have visited and known.  It is a country I mourn.
